Advanced Oxidation Processes for Water Treatment – Needs and Prospects for Large Scale Applications
Professor Anastasios Karabelas was employed (1970-1978) as a senior research engineer at the Shell Westhollow Research Center, Houston. Since 1978, as Professor of the Chemical Engineering Department at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, contributed to its development. He is a founding member of Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute (CPERI), at the Centre for Research and Technology - Hellas (CERTH) in Thessaloniki, heading the Laboratory of Natural Resources and Renewable Energies since 1985. His research interests include multiphase flow processes, colloidal systems and membrane separations, with applications to process equipment design and water treatment (desalination, purification). He has coordinated many R&D projects, supervised numerous theses and published over 170 peer-reviewed papers. He has organized several international and national scientific events. Professor Karabelas has served in various technical and science policy committees in Greece and abroad, including the Board of Governors of the Joint Research Centre of European Union (1984-1991).
