H.E. Prof. Sameer Abu-Eisheh

Title : Professor of Civil Engineering. Former Minister of Planning - PNA
Lecture : Current Status and Prospects towards Sustainable and Smart Transportation in an Emerging Country: The Palestinian Case

Born in 1960 in Nablus. Professor of Civil Engineering at An-Najah National University. Received his Ph.D. in 1987 with distinction, and M.Sc. in 1984 from the Pennsylvania State University, U.S.A. Received his B.Sc. from the University of Jordan in 1982.

Served as the President’s Assistant for Planning and Development, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at An-Najah National University. Served as a visiting Professor at a number of German, French, and U.S. universities.

Served as Advisor in the Ministry of Planning since its establishment. Former Minister of Planning, former Acting Minister of Finance, former Acting Minister of Education and Higher Education, and former Acting Deputy Prime Minister. He served as the Chairperson or Member of many Ministerial Committees.

His area of specialty is transport planning and traffic engineering. His fields of experience include as well road engineering, traffic safety, smart transportation, management of transportation systems, strategic planning, spatial planning, national and regional planning, the transportation-environment-energy relationship, and engineering education.

He authored more than 100 published or refereed conference papers, and participated in authoring two books and five manuals. He got a number of international and local awards. He has offered consulting services to various international and national entities, and led many transport and planning projects on the national, regional, and urban levels. He is also the Chairperson of the Scientific Committee at the Engineers Association, Jerusalem Center.
